He wants to help Kansans plan and prepare for the future.
Prior to becoming State Treasurer, LaTurner was elected to the Kansas State Senate twice, representing the people of Southeast Kansas. He served on the Financial Institutions Committee and was Chairman of Federal and State Affairs. As a state legislator, he worked to create a more efficient state government, and he has a proven record saving taxpayers’ money.
Before running for elected office, Jake graduated from Pittsburg State University in Southeast Kansas with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Following graduation, he worked for Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins in her Pittsburg office.
As State Treasurer Jake LaTurner oversees an office that currently handles over $24 billion and an annual operating budget of $3.5 million. Key programs in the office are Bonds Services, Cash Management, Unclaimed Property, the Ag Loan and Housing Loan Deposit Programs and the Kansas 529 Education Savings Program, which has more than 185,000 accounts with total assets exceeding $4.6 billion. The treasurer’s office is a fee-funded agency. In his role as treasurer, LaTurner also serves as a member of the Kansas Public Employee’s Retirement System (KPERS) and the Pooled Money Investment Board.
Jake has been married to his wife, Suzanne, for 7 years, and has 4 small children. Jake was born in Galena, Kansas, and is a 6th generation Kansan. Jake does not only advocate for the programs implemented by the Treasurer’s Office, but he personally utilizes the programs to help his children save for higher education.
